I was going to be a rockstar. It was my dream to tour the world, promoting platinum records at sold out stadiums in front of thousands of screaming fans.
But while chasing that dream, I encountered a series of life-changing events that I could not ignore, and an improbable new dream emerged… medicine.
So, I put down my drumsticks and grabbed a stethoscope to begin the unlikeliest of pursuits—completing a physician assistant degree, one of the most rigorous medical programs in the country.
Armed with a microcassette recorder, I was determined to capture a comprehensive account of my training and most personal moments. These audio journals would chronicle how I learned to help and heal others, while struggling to hold on to my sense of self—and sanity.

Shawn A. Roussin is a practicing physician assistant in New Hampshire with over twenty years of experience. A national champion in the extemporaneous writing category for Health Occupation Students of America, Shawn vowed to write the book he desperately needed to read prior to starting his career path, but it did not exist.
Always on a quest to find the next delicious ninety proof bourbon, Shawn enjoys fly fishing, grilling the perfect steak, and belting out harmonies to his favorite tunes while in the shower.
Despite his passion for patient care, he’d relinquish all his medical knowledge to have the singing voice of a grammy award winning vocalist for just one day.
